Good information is born of the truth spoken in love,
including "tough" love.
Good information is about God's will applied to life.
Good information is specific; incarnational; does not shy
away from controversy; can be uncomfortable; is often counter-culture.
Good information tests mainstream understandings of reality.
Good information may consist of both facts and
analysis. Good information may include
rational speculation when so labeled.
Good information is accountable to the evidence and to the
scientific method, without being limited by either.
Good information is always a work in progress. We are finite; only God is infinite.
The term "good information" is, among other
things, offered here as an alternative to the New Testament Greek term
"evangelion," usually translated "gospel" or "good
news," both of which have specialized and passive connotations. By way of contrast, good information is for
activists, and is not limited to a defined religious sphere. Good information has its inspiration and
origin in the recurring events of God breaking into and transforming human
history, including in the singular epochal event of Jesus
Christ. Good information is
neither limited to a bygone era or a single tradition or community.
Good Information Advocates as an organization sees itself as
a modern-day spiritual legatee, albeit a revisionist legatee, to the concepts
embodied in the names of such defunct Mennonite print media as "Gospel
Herald" or "Gospel Witness."
An advocate may proclaim; an advocate may give witness; an advocate
seeks tangible results that make differences for truth-telling and love in
communities, on a local, national and global scale.
